History

1950-1960

The appearance of the City of Nis and the rhythm of life of the city significantly changed in this period.  A new organization of urban and suburban transport was required as a consequence of the development of the economy and the increase in the number of inhabitants of Nis and its surroundings who traveled daily. Thus, on March 3, 1951, the Passenger Transport Company was formed, which united tram and modern bus transportation until 1958, when trams were completely replaced by buses.

In the sixties, Nis also became a university center, and well-organized transport was now a necessity for the growing number of students of Nis faculties. The red buses in this period became a synonym for the everyday functioning of Nis.

1970-1980

The seventies in many ways opened the way for further growth of the company. The company was moved into a new modern business building, a contemporary bus station was established in Nis, the vehicle fleet was modernized, numerous intercity and international lines were introduced.

After the business developed in the seventies and the newly established activities of the company – tourism, hospitality, freight forwarding – found their place on the market, the priority of the eighties was the increase of volume and modernization of the vehicle fleet. In 1989, the Nis-ekspres vehicle fleet numbered 473 buses and 139 trucks.

1990-2000

The nineties represented a milestone in business. At the time when many did not succeed in preserving economic stability, the company was reorganized in accordance with the demands of the market, the vehicle fleet was improved with new buses produced in the Nis-ekspres plants, and transport was carried out regularly even during the war years.

Numerous recognitions in this period were achieved, the most significant of which was the award for the best brand of Serbia for the bus NIBUS 400, the work of Niš-ekspres’ design-engineering team. This represented a confirmation that, despite challenges, Nis-ekspres was successfully building its position as a leader. The first internet services were also introduced.

2000-2010

With the aim of achieving maximum efficiency as well as raising the quality of services to a higher level, in this period the focus was on the modernization of all processes.

The introduction of new technologies significantly improved communication with the users of our services, and by creating the company’s web presentation, as well as presence on social networks, passengers were enabled easier and faster access to information.

2010-2024

Nis-ekspres has remained consistent with a clear plan: the constant raising of the quality of services in the field of passenger transport both on international, intercity, city lines, as well as in the domain of organized transport of pupils and employees.

By continuous investment in the renewal of the vehicle fleet, monitoring and introducing new technologies (WiFi in vehicles, online ticket sales, applications) with the goal of improving the user experience, as well as engaging and advancing driving and technical staff, Nis-ekspres continues to strengthen its position at the very top of the companies engaged in passenger transport.
